My best tips for getting ready

December 26, 2023 -

Getting ready is an important part of the wedding day. Here are my top tips in brief: Make sure you get ready in a suitable setting, ideally in two separate rooms with plenty of natural light. Limit the presence of friends and family to the closest people. Show the photographer pictures of the location and choose an appropriate outfit for getting ready. Hire stylists to come to your location to avoid stress.

Do you need a photographer/videographer?

Getting ready shouldn't be left out of the photo and video. After all, it's a crucial part of the day, full of nerves, anticipation, and dreams—and often, there's laughter and tears at the same time. It's a bit like the calm before the storm, only it's not really quiet. To ensure these wonderful moments are captured, you should include your wedding photographer in your planning. Here are a few tips from me for your getting ready.

Optimal location

Make sure you're getting ready in a suitable environment—to avoid chaos, two separate rooms in the same location are ideal (for example, two nearby Airbnbs or two hotel rooms). The costs are manageable and absolutely worth the difference in quality in the getting-ready photos! Large, minimalist rooms are ideal. Plenty of natural light, a large mirror—that's all you need!

The right support for getting ready

Your company at this location is equally important: You don't want to be interrupted by new friends and relatives every five minutes. Instead, it's better to decide exactly who should be there and who shouldn't. Many people want their best man, siblings, closest friends, or parents there. Anyone else will just make you more nervous than you probably already are.

Tip: If you want to create a little more emotion, you can do so with small, sentimental tokens. A letter for your partner to read during the getting ready phase, or one for the witnesses and parents to open during the ceremony? A special thank you note or the finalization of the vows? Whatever you can think of to celebrate this moment! A videographer will be happy to capture your words of anticipation for the wedding video!

What matters when it comes to light and outfit

Lighting and outfit are also important. As mentioned, daylight is best. If you show the photographer pictures of the location before booking the venue, they can tell you in advance whether it will be suitable for good photos.

Don't neglect your getting-ready outfit just because you'll be slipping into beautiful bridal attire afterward—after all, the first photos will be taken before and during the ceremony. Dress modestly, but in clothes you feel comfortable in and appropriate for the ceremony. It's best to book stylists for the getting-ready session, who will come to you and take care of the rest, without any stress.

Don't neglect the little things: drinks, small snacks and gifts for your loved ones as well as your favorite playlist ensure a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere during these exciting hours!
